Supersonic was considered among the most difficult levels of its time, with several memory-heavy ball, cube and UFO sections, moderately tight ship and wave segments scattered throughout the level, and its notoriously difficult final ship segment at the very end of the level. It is the first instalment in the Sonic Series, preceding UltraSonic.
